The European Capital of Culture 2018 is a big opportunity to turn the focus on culture and history about Malta. It will also promote stronger ties with the rest of Europe and foster innovation in the cultural sector. Valletta 2018 will form an integral and sustainable part of the long-term social, economic and cultural development of Malta. The Cultural Programme is built around 4 themes: Generations, Routes, Cities and Islands. That’s why the Valletta 2018 Foundation is working on a series of Infrastructure Projects which include the regeneration and conservation of a number of Valletta’s forgotten architectural treasures. So, the goal is that the city will become a center of excellence. A varied programme is proposed with artistic initiatives (art, music, digital projections…), cultural processes, events (carnival, Green festival, fashion week…), or seminars for instance.
